This is the Place
“Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and He said 'I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” – Genesis 28: 10-15 (NIV)
What do you notice about this verse? What jumped out at you?
How many times do we, like Jacob, make mistakes and get ourselves in situations that we believe God has abandoned us or turned His back on us. However, God never leaves us. He promised us that He is with us. Genesis 28:15 says, He will not leave us and will watch over us where ever we go. It’s easy for us to miss Gods’ presence in our circumstances. Yet, in hindsight, we can see that God is a loving Father who will rescue us with His almighty hand and put us on the path that He has laid out for us
Answer & Reflect on the following question (s):
Like Jacob, we must continue to seek God and honor him especially in times of uncertainty. We must consecrate our lives consistently. Just as Jacob set up a memorial to remember his encounter with God, we, too, can mark the moments where God shows up in our lives. Whether through journaling, prayer, or a reflective reminder, these markers help us remember that God is faithful in the past, present, and future. Today, take out time to reflect and journal a moment where God has showed up in your life and practice gratitude in this moment.
Speak to the Lord and spend some time in prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for being with us in every season of life, especially when we least expect it. Just as You met Jacob in his time of need, meet us in our moments of uncertainty. Help us to recognize Your presence in our lives and to trust in Your promises. Give us the courage to follow You, knowing that You are faithful and will never leave us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
