Be Still
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.” – Psalms 46: 10-11 (NLT)
“Be Still." Sounds easy enough, right? So why, then is it so hard to do? In a world where everything and everyone is vying for your attention, and distracting you from what’s important, there is hope in the one who is constant. It is important to exercise stillness for many different reasons. Stillness brings clarity. Stillness brings peace. Stillness brings breakthrough. Stillness silences the voices around you to magnify the one voice that matters (our heavenly Father's).
1 Samuel 12:16 states, “Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!“ (NIV) Without practicing “stillness,” we can completely miss the direction in which God is leading us. Without stillness, chaos wreaks havoc and allows confusion to settle in. Without stillness, you can be led onto a path that was never God’s purpose for you because you’re amplifying other voices, over God’s voice. That’s exactly what the enemy wants.
In John 10:10, the Bible states, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV) The enemy wants to keep you in a place where divisiveness rules, where you begin to question and doubt your purpose. The enemy hates to see you walk in God’s purpose and will use any tool necessary to take you down. His goal is to split up families, dismantle churches, and keep you in a state of doubt and confusion, so that you do not serve your full purpose in God’s kingdom. If you give into that pressure without practicing “stillness,” you can easily fall into the wrong trap. Let us always make sure we are people that practice “stillness,” so that God can clearly guide our steps in all situations.
Spend some alone time with the Lord by taking (at least) 5 minutes of your day to practice “being still”. Shut off any and all noise around you, go into a space where you can be completely alone and “in tune” with God, and just sit in His presence. In this time, ask Him to reveal Himself to you
Speak to the Lord and spend some time in prayer:
Father, we thank You that You are a Father who devotes Himself to His children. We thank You that You seek to spend time with us. We pray, Lord, that you give us the heart to pursue You more. Be our guide each and every day! In Jesus name, we pray, Amen!
