Spiritual Warfare
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:10-12 (NIV)
What do you notice about this verse? What jumped out at you?:
Written by the Apostle Paul, Ephesians 6 jumps out as one of the most profound chapters of the Bible. It was written to give knowledge, but also to empower believers to remain strong throughout an unseen spiritual battle (between God and the devil, between good and evil). Not because we are capable of winning on our strength alone, but by the strength of our mighty Father who lives in us.
In this life, we will face trials, the battle is never just strictly “flesh and blood” alone; but the trials we do face, are always are connected to a spiritual component. As believers, we must discern the Spirit and equip ourselves with God’s armor in all situations.
When we face trials, Ephesians 6 urges us to “put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” God’s strength is our armor for battle. Ephesians 6 goes on to instruct us to carry God with us in all situations, but especially when we feel attacked. So remember, when you are faced with trials, do not fear, for in Exodus 17:15 the Lord is described as Jehovah-Nissi (Translation: the Lord is my Banner). With our banner of protection, we have already won every attack that the enemy tries to throw at us. Remain firm and put on your armor, because with God for us, who can be against us?
Answer & Reflect on the following question(s):
In Ephesians 6, verses 14-17, the Bible speaks about putting on the full armor of God and what each piece represents. Write them all down on a piece of paper (ex. belt = truth, breastplate= righteousness, etc.). Then, ask God to fully cover you in His armor, so that when the forces of the enemy attack, you are not shaken.
Speak to the Lord and spend some time in prayer:
Father, we thank you for your strength and that we don’t have to be strong ones in all of life’s circumstances; that you hold us and carry us through the bad days and rejoice with us on our good days. We pray that through life’s trials we are reminded daily to put on the full amor of God. It is only with you at our side that we are able to defeat the enemy. Help us always to stand firm in your truth. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen!
