The Cause

"But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God. Moreover, David said, "The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hands of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the Lord be with you!" - 1 Samuel 17:34-37 (NKJV)

What do you notice about this verse? What jumped out at you?:

I love David's faith. He never said, "God delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, so I hope He will do it again with this Philistine." He said "He will deliver me from the hands of this Philistine." How many instances can you think of, where God has pulled you out of some dark pits or some tough times? For me, I wouldn't be able to keep track. There's nothing I can do, nor is there any amount of praise that would be worthy of equating His love for me. Yet, that's all we can give Him.
Pastor talked about us all having a giant that we face. None of our giants are the same. My giant may not look the same way yours does. Our giants can look like past traumas that we haven't healed from, they could be financial, or emotional. Our giant can be a parent, friend, family member, or coworker. No matter what your giant looks like, you aren't fighting it on your own. The same God who delivered David from the paw of the lion, and the paw of the bear, and delivered him from the hands of the Philistine is the same God that has already delivered you. And friend … He will do it again.! All we have to do is trust Him!

Answer & Reflect on the following questions:

Take some time to list the ‘giants’ that God has slain for you. Think of the battles you've won. Think of that testimony that you can't get out of your head. If He has done all of that, don't you think He will do it again?

Speak to the Lord and spend some time in prayer:

Lord, thank You for your goodness. Thank You for the countless ways You show up for us. Thank You for reminding us of what You have brought us through. Thank You for the many Biblical stories and testimonies from people, to show us that You will continue to do it again. We are not worthy of Your love, yet, You bless us with it anyway. Focus our eyes on You. Strengthen our faith, to not only hope You will slay another giant, but to know that You will. Thank You for the chains that will be broken. Thank You for the freedom that will be felt. In Jesus name, Amen!
