A Growth Process

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” - 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NIV)

What do you notice about this verse? What jumped out at you?:

Life… it’s hard, isn’t it? We have all experienced and encountered situations that make us want to quit, make us want to give up, and leave us feeling hopeless, and depleted. It is completely natural to go through these emotions, and as followers of Jesus these situations get tested tremendously throughout our walk with Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3 talks about being in the world, but not of the world. In other words, as children of God we are set apart. This means that we don’t reason or do things as the world does. As believers, we need to “guard our hearts and minds” and exercise control over our thoughts and emotions so that it is fixated on Christ. If we don’t control “it” then “it” will control us. Jesus never promised life would be easy, in fact He was brutally honest and told us the exact opposite. John 16: 33 states, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (NIV).
Jesus has the power to demolish strongholds; there is nothing that our God cannot do and there is nothing we can’t do without the power of God through us. Jesus already paid the debt, so all we have to do is surrender our situation to Him. Just being able to rest in that promise takes a huge weight off our shoulders, and places it on the one who fights for us. Thank you, Jesus!

Answer & Reflect on the following question (s):

2 Corinthians 10:4 states “The weapons we fight with are not weapons of this world.” Reflect on what that means. What are some of the spiritual weapons God has equipped us with? Write them down and make it a point to grow in these areas so that you are better prepared for warfare when it comes.

Speak to the Lord and spend some time in prayer:

Father, we thank you for your guidance. We thank you that you have given us the tools to fight while we are in a spiritual battle. We ask that you overwhelm us with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Keep our minds fixated on you. May you always be the center of our thoughts and actions. We know that with you, every battle is already won! We praise you, Jesus! Amen.
